[ All portions of each question must be answered sequentially.] 1. The Partition of Bengal in 1905 was less administrative and more political. Illustrate with reference to its underlying causes. (CLO1, Level - 2 ) 2. In 1951, the area of East Pakistan and West Pakistan consisted of 344,218 square miles ,in which West Pakistan was 290,298 square mile (84% of total area ),where the rest of was east Pakistan (16%).In that year ,the total population of Pakistan was 74 mill ion ,of which 56% lived in west Pakistan and 44% was in West Pakistan .Although the area was smaller ,more people lived in East Pakistan (Today Bangladesh ).India was divided based on religion .However ,like India ,Pakistan was also a multiethnic country ,Bengalee ,Panjabi ,Sindhi ,Pushto ,Baluchi and some other tribal groups were living .The percentage and distribution of the languages commonly spoken including mother tongue and number of persons speaking those language in Pakistan as per census of 1951 i s as follows : Speaking language in Pakistan (Percentage):1951 Language Persons Percentage Bengali 4,12,91,989 54.6% Punjabi 2,14,66,815 28.4% Urdu 45,19,131 7.2% Pushtu 35,89,626 7.1% Sindhi 43,59,287 5.8% Baluchi 10,75,999 1.4% English 13,77,567 1.8% Identify the factors political, cultural, and administrative that led Bengali students and intellectuals to resist the Urdu - only policy. In the crucible of 1971, as Bangladesh fought for its very existence, b uild the pivotal contributions and interventions of India, the Soviet Union, and the United States during the Liberation War. Under Ayub Khan’s authoritarian regime, e xamine the chronicle of the student movement of 1962 – 1964, highlighting how students opposed his policies and asserted their demands. (CLO3, Level - 4) 5. Against the background of authoritarian rule and decades of East Pakistan’s political and economic neglect, analyze the key factors that combined to make the 1970 election a decisive turning point .
